I can see right through you.

I love the touch of silk on my skin.

I like to sparkle.

You may think this is frivolous.I love my body.

Now.

There has been loss and betrayal.

In the long line of the women

I come from.

Yes. That is true.

My grandmother took her shoes off

on the way to church.

She walked barefoot.

In the depth of winter.

This is the way she said No.

Without words.

Wild like an animal.

Other women envied her.

She was free.

Her blood runs through me.

I carry that silence in me.

And it has taught me to speak.
