POEM/ Invocation DECEMBER 30

In the land of the Purepecha Indians

Jesus,

This Christmas Eve

Appeared  

In the form of a young mechanic 

Who crawled out from underneath a car

Wrenches scattered around him

A radiant face and oil stained clothing  

Ready to assist two stranded people, 

Us,

With a broken truck

No hesitation, no resistance

Stopped him interrupting his work 

To  guide us where we needed to be

Only a shy smile, 

When he walked away

After dropping us at the destination

No swagger, 

Just a humble and proud generosity 

takes him on his  path 

Jesus appeared in the form

Of a middle aged man

This Christmas Eve

Once a janitor In Ottawa

Now happily back 

In his motherland 

Mexico

He took us in with open arms.

No questions asked, 

A cheerful conversations 

From under the hood 

Flowing back and forth 

Jesus appeared this Christmas

In the form of an old woman

With no front teeth

Selling her clay ware at the 

Side of the road.

As we exchanged a few words

Admiring the exquisite glaze

We smiled at each other 

A smile coming from the shared joy 

Of seeing 

Beauty in our world

When I went to sleep 

This Christmas Eve

The Purepecha 

Sent me dreams 

Revelatory and deep 

Christmas in the land 

Of  the Purepecha

This is where I always 

Want to be.
